[Pic of the Week] : Focus.

The most important thing in photography is light. Hands down.

Somewhere in the top 3 of important things in photography, though, is paying attention. Especially at events, the major thing I ask myself is “Besides the main thing happening here, the main thing everyone is watching, what else is going on?”  What are people on the sidelines thinking, feeling, doing? What about the kid in the corner picking his nose? Someone will enjoy that later. What about the mom’s reaction to her daughter walking down the aisle? (or the ex-boyfriend’s, for that matter…) What about the person on row 3 who’s being especially moved by the singer I’m there to photograph? It’s like the great philosopher Ferris Bueller once said: “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.”

In this pic of the week, I’d like you to meet Frank. Frank is awesome. He runs the coworking space I am proudly a member of, he wears bow ties every Friday, and he always has a smile on his face. When I took this photo, I was at Epicentral Coworking, hired to shoot an event with lots of important people saying some important things, but I’m glad I looked over at good ole Frank in the middle because a) he always makes me smile and b) I love this!

If Frank makes you smile, too, and you’d like to see more of him, check out this hilarious video of his epic bicycle ride here.
